RAT ATTACK - THE CLASS 25’s

The 25’s were introduced from 1961.A Type 2 Bo Bo. A light weight of 73 tons and a 1,250 HP power output made them an ideal locomotive for many tasks.

The footage on this DVD was shot in 1983, 84 and 85 in London, East Anglia, The Midlands and The North.

Class 25 action includes passenger, freight, parcels/newspaper vans and engineers workings. Station pilot duties are also included.
 
The opening shots of 25138 with a ballast at Bedford begin our nostalgic look at these Type 2 gems. Enjoy the action at Leicester with 25210 and an assortment of empty coaching stock and 25185 with Ketton cement tanks. After dusk scenes at Wigan Springs and a visit to Derby we see 25317 on station pilot duties at London St. Pancras.

A definite sight to savour is that of 25133 with a train of vans at Nottingham. The action comes thick and fast at Romiley. Look out for the cats as they ‘play chicken’ while 25206 approaches the junction heading south off the Bredbury branch.

From here we head north to Guide Bridge, Ashbury and Manchester Victoria. Then after watching  the superb sight of a 25 with a steam heat train at Ais Gill we travel back to the Midlands for some lovely close ups of 25245 and 25131 on shed at Toton M.P.D. 

Steam puts in another appearance at Carlisle, this time in the form of 25351 dragging Evening Star.

A definite highlight of this DVD is 25259 and 25251 departing Cresty Lane with 9 100 ton tank wagons. Before they depart some close ups are captured in an almost eerie silence.

There are more highlights including 25287 shunting at Peterborough and 25042 with a heavy engineers train at Chester.

The DVD ends with some sad shots of condemned locomotives at Toton M.P.D. in 1984.

At the end we have included some still shots taken at Swindon in 1986. This really was the end for many of the Class.
